Frequently Asked Questions
Does Innovative Decks use subcontractors?
All of the construction work is performed by Innovative Decks own employees. On occasion, it might be necessary to hire a licensed plumber, roofer or electrician to comply with village regulations.
What form of payment does Innovative Decks accept and do you offer financing?
We accept cash, check and major credit cards. Please note that there is a 2.5% processing fee added to any credit card purchase. We do not offer financing/payment plans. Our payment structure is normally a deposit which is one-third of the total project cost, one-third at the time we begin your project and the final one-third when your project is finished. Should it be necessary for your to cancel your project due to an unforeseen life event, deposits are fully refundable less any charges Innovative Decks has incurred for village permit fees, restocking fees on special order material or architectural renderings.
How long does construction take?
There are many factors to consider and each project is unique. The size of the project, scheduling inspections, weather delays, material deliveries, etc. can all affect build times. The average deck takes less than one week to build. An extensive backyard project can take up to two weeks or more. It has been our experience lately that COVID has significantly affected material availability and delivery times. We will do our utmost to manage your project for a successful and speedy completion.
What warranties does Innovative Decks offer?
Innovative Decks offers a two year labor warranty on all of our work. Material guarantees are limited to those of the manufacturer.
Do I need to wait until spring to have an outdoor project started?
No. Innovative Decks builds year round. We recommend receiving an estimate early in the year for a spring or summer build. We are on a first come/first service basis and during peak season, we can carry a backlog of up to 12 weeks.
Can I make changes to my project once a contract is signed?
Yes. Most customers make changes after signing their contract. We are very hands on and want the building process to go as easily as possible. If changes are made, we will revise your contract. However, any special order material could be subject to a restocking fee which is mandated by our suppliers or changes in dimensions might be subject to reapproval by the village and/or HOA.
Do you assist with permit approval?
We will do the necessary paperwork and drawing to scale, and apply at most villages for you. The homeowner is responsible for all permit fees and associated costs, as well as picking the permit up from the village. We will not apply for permits with the City of Chicago, Cook County or Unincorporated Cook County. Customers are also responsible for obtaining approvals from their HOA's.
